The Process

From Sketch to Flame

Every Fin & Gill candle follows a deliberate, hands-on process.

STEP ONE

OBSERVATION & ILLUSTRATION

Inspired by Species.

Each design begins with detailed study of fish coloration, pattern, and movement.

Melanie hand-draws every species illustration, translating natural markings into artwork that wraps seamlessly around each glass vessel.

No digital shortcuts.
No pre-made graphics.

Only original artwork.

STEP TWO

VESSEL DESIGN

Art Meets Function

Illustrations are carefully adapted to glass, allowing light, wax color, and flame to interact with the artwork as the candle burns.

The goal is simple:
Create an object beautiful enough to remain long after use.

STEP THREE

SMALL BATCH POURING

Handmade in the USA

Each candle is poured by hand in small batches using premium wax blends and thoughtfully selected fragrance oils.

Every step is completed individually:

• Wick placement
• Wax pouring
• Cooling & curing
• Finishing inspection

No automated production lines.

STEP FOUR

CURING & FINISHING

Attention to Detail

After hand labeling, candles are allowed to properly cure before labeling and packing to ensure optimal burn performance and scent throw.

Each vessel is inspected before leaving the studio as they are labeled for sales.

STEP FIVE

LIFE AFTER THE BURN

Designed to Be Reused

Once finished, the vessel easily transitions into everyday use.

Simply clean the glass and reuse it as drinkware or décor.

Fin & Gill products are created with permanence in mind — reducing waste while increasing value.

Crafted Slowly. Meant to Last.

From the first sketch to the final flame, every Fin & Gill candle reflects intentional craftsmanship and respect for the natural world that inspired it.
